“My discovery sparked my desire to help kids with unique learning profiles.”
My passion for helping students with executive functioning delays stems from my own experience. As a child, I was a good student, but I was often forgetful, disorganized, and scattered. I remember many nights in my youth that ended in panic, late nights, and tears of frustration.
With the help of a patient mother, I always somehow got the work done in the end. And my grades were above average.
High school was more of the same. I struggled with deadlines, writing papers, and studying for tests. I prioritized sports over school work, often doing the bare minimum to scrape by.
When college came around, I knew that something had to change or I would probably FAIL OUT!!! I needed to figure something out fast.
That’s when I decided to commit myself to becoming a better learner and figure out how my brain works. I became fascinated with learning how to learn better and faster and began to read as many books as I could on this topic.
I experimented with any tip, trick, and shortcut I could find. Over time, with persistence and determination, I slowly and gradually improved.
It became clear to me that school expected me to know and apply the content, but never taught me the skills I needed to acquire it. I didn’t know how to study, plan, prioritize, stay focused, ask for help, or get organized.
My discovery sparked my desire to help kids with unique learning profiles like my own. I became a special education teacher and made it my mission to teach kids how to create habits, routines, and develop skills now that would save them from unnecessary pain in the future.
My 16 years teaching in public, private, and international schools has equipped me with the tools required to teach students how to excel in academics and establish habits, systems, and routines that make them successful in life!
